Mark Edward Kozelek is an American singer, songwriter, guitarist, record producer and occasional actor. He is known as the vocalist and primary recording artist of the indie folk act Sun Kil Moon and founding member of the indie rock band Red House Painters, with whom he recorded six studio albums from 1988 until 2001. Inspired by classical guitar music, Kozelek recorded Sun Kil Moon's fourth studio album, Admiral Fell Promises (2010), as a solo act, and continued to record mostly alone on its follow-up, Among the Leaves (2012). Sun Kil Moon's eighth studio album, Common as Light and Love Are Red Valleys of Blood, was released in February 2017, which was followed by their ninth studio album, This Is My Dinner, in November 2018. The tenth Sun Kil Moon studio album, I Also Want to Die in New Orleans, was released in March 2019.

It's important to remember, though, that the group wasn't just Kozelek. For the first three full-lengths, it was Kozelek on vocals and guitars along with drummer Anthony Koutsos, bassist Jerry Vessel, and guitarist Gorden Mack. He released it on Supreme Recordings, a label owned by John Hughes and under the auspices of Island Records, which reminds me that he's the only person from Red House Painters who also went on to act in movies. Red House Painters were fairly popular in the early '90s, but details on them were scarce.
In 2008, the two spent a day together in Melbourne, where he was performing that night. At one point, she says, he asked her if she’d ever been attracted to or romantically interested in him, and she told him firmly that she hadn’t. Upon returning to the United States, Connie had a conversation with Kozelek about his alleged behavior, she says. She also confided to a close friend about Kozelek’s behavior shortly after they returned from the trip, the friend confirmed to Pitchfork. “I remember her just being really miserable, and feeling really broken in a way that I had never seen her before,” the friend says.
